Description
In 1807 the monastery relieved the Bavarian government. In 1816, after the return of Tyrol to Austria, the abbey was restored by Emperor Francis I of Austria. In 1938-39, the monastery was dissolved and seized by the Nazi rulers, who used it to welcome emigrants from South Tyrol. After the end of the Second World War, in 1945, it returned to the Cistercian monks. In 1983, the abbey church was elevated by Pope John Paul II to the rank of minor basilica.
