Properties inscribed on the World Heritage List – Italy – Portovenere, Cinque Terre, and the Islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto 1997
One of the pearls of the Gulf of Poets is splendid Porto Venere, which has always been loved by poets, writers and painters from the whole world. You arrive at Porto Venere by boat and prepare your camera and camcorder: they will help you to immortalize its beauty. Not by chance together with the three islands of the archipelago (Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto) and Cinque Terre it is World Heritage. It owes its name to the temple of Venus that was found in the place in which the romantic old San Pietro church stands, on the extreme tip of the promontory.
A sea village on the Eastern Riviera with a charm of its own, one of the most beautiful and most photographed places in Liguria. From being a fishermen’s village it turned into a fortress on the sea, and still today the old walls are preserved. To the harbour there come fishermen’s boats and along the dock you are welcomed by restaurants and the high and colourful buildings that are mirrored in the sea. The view of the Gulf of Poets is very beautiful. There are so many things to see and photograph: in addition to the Castle, the San Lorenzo church, the San Pietro church and Byron’s Cave, you can relax on the beaches or enjoy the sun on the rocks, or go along the caruggio that crosses the old village and contains delightful shops selling typical products and souvenirs.By boat in a few minutes you reach Palmaria, the only inhabited island in Liguria, a nature reserve crossed by paths and tourist itineraries. Here small accommodation structures will give you a marvellous stay based on good cuisine, relaxation and nature. There are a lot of marine caves such as the famous Blue Grotto.
