Description
An encounter with Šibenik and its region is an encounter with a rich, long and exciting history, with the interesting landscape of present-day Šibenik’s hinterland and the exciting Kornati archipelago and a hundred shades of green in the refraction of the sun’s rays on the River Krka. It is in fact water that characterises the Dalmatia-Šibenik region.Šibenik was the first town on the Adriatic that the Croats founded (1066) and it was the first town in the world that had public electric lighting (1895), whilst the first hydroelectric power plant in Europe was built right in its hinterland, at the waterfalls of the Krka river, and it started running just two days after the first hydroelectric power plant in the world – the one at Niagara Falls.
